I have a question or would find it great if someone could possibly help me.
Some time ago I lost an ASUS laptop. Meaning, the laptop starts, the LEDs are flashing, the fan starts to turn, but the screen stays completely black. Since I still had the thing lying around at home and stumbled over it today, I thought I'd try again.
Problem is as described. Laptop apparently starts, but screen stays black. The fan is spinning, but apart from that I would say that the laptop is unusually quiet. But currently I have no hard drive inside, but only a Debian Live USB, of which I would like to start.
Does anyone have a tip on what I could try, or can someone at least take the last hope from me so I can put the case to rest?
Habs times with an external monitor tried - without success. So might have caught the graphics card and thus be relatively hopeless, I see that right?
As it sounds, the graphics card is defective.
If you can't exchange these, then it is worth depending on the year of construction and model anyway no more.
It may also be that the memory is possibly defective. In case of doubt (and if you get there) open the cover of the memory slots and remove both times. Then start the device. Possibly (but not necessarily) he starts cheering happily and in the ideal case he points out that no memory was found. So you can fix the memory as a cause of error.
If two memory latches are installed, start and try the laptop with one of the latches alone. Maybe it's just a contact problem. After a long time of standing around, you can maybe do something by cleaning the contacts.
Can it be that one of the external connections (USB, etc.) causes a short circuit (bent contacts inside or similar) and thus no start is possible? The best time to come in with a lamp and see if you can make something out of the ordinary. Have seen some wild and destroyed ports.
Personally, I would otherwise take care of memory / disk to test; but in principle you can then (without unscrewing the thing or 'nachzubacken') probably say that this is a defect that is no longer worth repairing.
Maybe that helps a bit,

Have you ever checked if there are memory in it? He usually does not do anything without them. Other possibility would be that what is wrong with the fan. In order to protect the processor he does not drive up.
