Can it be that with a new HP 17 (ca-0202ng) the fan runs almost nonstop?
I have not bought a new laptop for a long time, but it was used to the HP 255 G6 and other ASUS models that you really only hear the fan in performance.
Personally, it does not bother me as long as it's normal. Otherwise, I would send it back to the dealer.
Could it be that this is not just a classic Ultrabook and that it is "normal"? Or that it is due to components such as HDD + SSD?
Short to the components:
AMD Ryzen 5 2500 (4 core, normal T.Frequenz 2.0 GHz, "Turbo" to 3.6 Ghz)
8 GB of RAM at 2400 MHz
integrated Radeon Vega 8
Win 10 Home (Should I try the 10 Pro?)
HDD 1 GB + SSD 256 GB
By feeling I push the required cooling to a fault or the frequencies of the components. Possibly. On the 2 hard drives. But the SSD should be super fast and very quiet?
This is due to the settings in the BIOS I guess, the fans will probably run continuously, I know of another HP notebook with Ryzen processor.
In addition, the Ryzen CPUs are not as economical as the competition from Intel and thus generate more waste heat. Therefore, HP has adjusted the settings in the bios so that the fans are always running.
Lenovo Legion Y530 measures the same, have sent the thing now for the third time, allegedly was always exchanged absolute scrap these new laptops.
What a scrap.
AMD CPUs are still a long way behind the Intel offerings in terms of power savings.
The 2500U clocks between 2 - 3.6 GHz at 12-25W TDP, depending on the load.
In comparison Intel's 8650U clocks between 0.8 - 4.2 GHz at 10-25W TDP.
So has a much wider multiplier spectrum and correspondingly adapted power consumption / heat development.
However… But have read that you can download a BIOS update on the HP side, with which it should be possible to change the fan control.
Well. Own fault.
I was only interested in the performance of the selection. Many benchmarks of the comparison processors viewed and had not thought at all that I should have invested about 100 euro more but not yet… Well…
Thank you! That helps. Too bad. Really. I was already surprised at a really hot power supply. Whether the processor right after startup needs such a cooling, I let HP decide. I think it's strange but well.
Yes, that bothers me too much, my old Samsung is always extremely quiet in normal operation.
When booting I still understand it, but even if you do not work on it to hear the fan, that would not be real I think.
If you believe this, you can install a new BIOS version and then change the fan control.
I'm still thinking about keeping it to myself. The keyboard layout also changed. And Enter is nothing more than a shift. Although I have set the key assignment of the # to Enter, but I'm not completely satisfied with the whole. Now comes the fan even more… The BIOS I will definitely take it. Or I get used to the fan. In order not to have to watch the temperature…
I have to laugh about how I've been wondering if I'll hear the HDD…
Yes, I agree. The arrow keys and the enter key are extremely small.
What bothers me is that there's no keyboard shortcut to turn off the display.
In itself, the HP notebooks are great, also in terms of quality. Do you know, I would probably mind too. Of course you get used to the fans with the time… And hopefully the HDD is not as loud as the fan.
