Hard disk docking station with 3 Sata ports?

I borrowed a docking station with 1 Sata and 1 Ide port from a friend to check my "old" hard drives. Since I only have Sata disks, I couldn't test whether I can see 1 Sata and 1 Ide disk at the same time.

Now I want to get myself a docking station like that too. But with at least 2 or 3 connections for Sata. Now the question arises as to how this is displayed on the laptop. Let's assume I have a docking station with 3 Sata ports and equip it with 3 hard drives of 1TB each. Will I have 1 drive with a storage volume of 3 TB on the computer, 3 drives with a volume of 1 TB each or none of that? I also have the fear that I can only operate 1 drive at a time on such a station.

You will usually see three individual drives.
