I have an old notebook, where at the beginning even Windows 8.1 was on it. But then sometime I installed Windows 10 on it. And now I want to install Windows XP on it, but somehow the CD does not want to boot. Everything is set in the bios so far. At Legacy First, I've set my external drive to first, since the internal is now more or less over. Now I've tried over there to boot and nothing happened! Then I started the boot menu and tried over there to boot directly and nothing happened again. Then I reset Windows 10 complete, the first time the whole hard drive is empty. And then I tried again to boot but again without success!
Does anyone have an idea for me?
Very unlikely that there are XP drivers for this notebook. If you still want to try it, disable the EFI / UEFI secure boot and set the SATA mode from AHCI to IDE.
But luckily I still have a driver CD for XP.
Let that be with the Windows XP.
It's best to install a modern Linux on it (Linux Mint). So your old notebook runs faster.

Under Downloads -> Documentation -> German you will find everything you need to know, from creating a medium on DVD or USB stick, installation instructions to first steps. Everything in German clear and understandable as well as provided with pictures.
Is free of charge and does not need forced registration or forced activation via key.
Little info: drivers not only have to fit the operating system, but also the hardware used.
So I can only change from AHCI to Compatible, which I have already done. But it did not do much!
Where ever Windows 10 was on it wants to go back there. You have no choice but to remove the plate to put in another computer and fromat the complete disk again, including the partitions the win 10 has created for the instalation.
Problem is solved even if it is quite expensive. From Windows 10 down to Windows 8.1. Then down from 8.1 down to Windows 7, then down from Windows 7 to Vista. And down there on Windows XP.
Otherwise, for simple shortcuts only a dumb blue screen awaits me in the setup or the Windows setup will not even start. : /
