Window 10 update is downloaded and installed, but my laptop always hangs when it needs to be restarted. What can I do?
You could try to delete the downloaded updates from memory. This will download them again and maybe fix the problem.
Here is a short guide to using the command line:
Press Windows key + X Start command prompt (administrator) - Tip: Replace Powershell and command prompt Windows 10
Or enter the start menu / start screen cmd.exe and right-click as administrator.
Enter the following commands one after the other and leave the window open.
Services are terminated
net stop wuauserv press Enter
net stop cryptSvc press Enter
net stop bits press Enter
net stop msiserver press Enter
Update folders are renamed. Windows will then automatically create new ones:
ren C: \ Windows \ SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C: \ Windows \ System32 \ catroot2 Catroot2.old
Services are started again
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver
Permissions are reset and Windows Update is started:
wuauclt / resetauthorization
wuauclt / detectnow
