VLC Media Player is not working anymore?

I currently watch DVD's on my laptop every day with the VLC Media Player. It always worked fine, except for yesterday. I watched my movie and suddenly it stopped. The laptop was a bit warm so I switched it off. Today I wanted to see the movie but the VLC can't read my DVD and also makes very strange noises. Other DVDs do not work anymore. Even updating did not help. Does anyone know?
