The statement contradicts itself. Either there's no operating system installed or Windows 10 Home is preinstalled as the operating system.

Then boot the laptop from the USB stick and follow the instructions of the installation wizard.

Depends on the course, but with Windows you usually don't do much wrong.
In my studies in computer science, Linux distributions were mostly represented.
Well-known from the design area primarily used macOS.
But if Windows is preinstalled, this is done anyway. In this case, a Windows key has already been entered.
Here I would order a USB pen with Linux Mint Live 19.3 from IXSOFT for 10 euro, then it doesn't matter what the computer has on the disk. When the pen is plugged in and booted from it, you are already on the Mint desktop and can use all programs that Mint has in the basic installation (Mail, Office, Firefox, Multimedia…).
All user data is saved on the pen (if desired).
Linux Mint (the most popular Linux) can also be legally installed by the pen and used permanently on the computer free of charge (if desired).
Mint is very easy to use, like XP, even if the big experts don't mention it. A license is not required.
