Is 4GB RAM a lot or a little?

I want to get a new laptop with 4GB RAM, but my mother says that's not enough. Is that correct? The storage for the hard drive is 320GB and I thought until now games are always saved on the hard drive. Can I download several games at all or is the RAM really too small?

Ram is memory so the game runs as you play it.

And whatever you play, you also need a relatively good CPU and a mediocre graphics card

RAM is the main memory and has little to do with the actual memory, it is something like an ultra-fast buffer. Nowadays 4GB (at least for a laptop) is actually rather little, especially if you want to play games. I recommend at least 8GB and if possible an SSD (hard drive) :-)

The RAM is the short-term memory of the computer, so to speak. Too little is something like Alzheimer's - things are always forgotten and you have to read them (from the hard disk). That is of course slow.
