I built the hard drive, with Windows 10 Pro and one of 2 4GB Ram in a new laptop, because my old one has given up. Now I'm asked in the lower right corner of the screen in transparent font to activate Windows. I ignored it at first because everything works. Since the old connections with the old laptop ID are still saved in the settings, I also installed the old main board. Now the request bothers me a bit. I looked for the Windows specifications in the settings, where you actually activate Windows in the test version, but everything is completely normal. No button that says Update Windows. How do I get rid of this request now?
Just log in with a slightly older Microsoft account, then Windows should be activated.
It is very complicated because you have to delete some files in recovery mode and cmd. And if not, you have to re-enter the Producet Key, you have already had it.
Hardware data for your computer is stored at Microsoft. If you swap hardware, Microsoft will only accept that to a certain extent… And if all of a sudden there's too much difference, they assume another computer, which in turn would also need its own license. Hence the prompt to activate. Go to the message on it and you will usually find an optional telephone number: You call there (at Microsoft), give them the number generated by the computer and tell them the reason: Major hardware change. Then give yourself a new number to enter… And everything will be fine again.
If you buy a refurbished Windows license from Rakuten.de, the procedure is the same because your computer definitely has different hardware than the previous computer.
