When I was younger I played a Sonic game (2d) on the old laptop. It was pretty old in appearance and I remember one level in the night and there were so many skyscrapers and high-rise buildings in the background. Above the stars and that's it. Which game was it because I often get flashbacks from the music…
It's very general. But the Stardust Speedway would be a candidate. There are, however, several Sonic games. One of the best music versions had the Sonic CD version (especially on the PC) - although all 4 versions were good (Past, Present, Good and Bad Future), my personal favorite was the Past version, which grooves so nicely.

In general, Sonic CD had a very good soundtrack that even the midi version from the Sonic & Knuckles Collection could beat.
