I connected my laptop to my monitor via HDMI, but the monitor shows exactly the same image as the laptop. How can I have the monitor as a 2nd screen so that I can have different windows open on the laptop and the monitor?
That doesn't work on a notebook. Operation with an external monitor is primarily intended for presentations or in connection with a beamer.
what a graphics card in the pc can do with a second monitor can't be done on the laptop, since only the image signal of the notebook is redirected or doubled.
All right, thanks for the answer.
This is wrong
Did you extend the screen too? Win + P
Or also via the display settings.
Because:?
Because I've been working with laptops on multiple screens myself for years? Started back in 2009, if I remember correctly…
You can also extend screens on laptops
This should actually be possible with any Windows 10 device - including a laptop.
Take a look here: https://praxistipps.chip.de/...ehts_42647
If you right-click on the desktop, you can expand the display under Display Settings. The second monitor is recognized and works. You have to switch the option from "Mirror screen" to "Extend display". I would be very surprised if a relatively new laptop can't do that. Give it a try and let me know if it worked.
Jo that's the solution, thank you very much!
Ok, but does it only work if the notebook has a second, separate graphics chip?
No. This also works if there's only one graphics chip.
