Notebook purchased for study - canceled?

I bought a notebook for my studies (820 Euro).

Only I finished my studies prematurely after one semester. Do I have to pay any attention to the tax return for this year?

If you bought the 2018 notebook, you can start earning it in the year as a business expense. If the 820 Euro is the gross amount, you can deduct it fully as GWG.

Is it a first degree or a second degree (eg Master)? It depends on how the tax office takes into account the costs. In the case of a first degree course, according to the current legal situation, these are only special editions. These are also deducted from the income, but only up to a maximum of 0 euro. A loss carryforward can't be created with special issues. A second study, on the other hand, involves income-related expenses, which may also lead to a loss if there's insufficient income in the year.

Regardless of whether it is a first or second degree course, I advise you to enter the costs as an income-related expense. The decisions are provisional in the point, because because of this unequal treatment for years, a procedure at the Federal Constitutional Court is running. Should this decide once positively, you will receive the loss later.

All right. This is a first degree, but a second education, since I have already completed a vocational training. The question, of course, is whether or not I have to make any refunds if I make the 2020 statement in 2021 and the tax office sees that I did not study that year (+ one semester in 2019, as I only paid one in full have - extra-occupational at a prv.

If the 820 EUR is the gross amount you are under the GWG limit of 800 EUR net, so you can set the asset fully.

Then you have nothing to expect later.

It would only have a later impact, if the 820 EUR would be the net amount, for example, and then you would have to write it off over 3 years (I'm not 100% sure of the duration now). Then you could set the amount only on a pro rata basis for the time you studied.

Is the gross amount! Great, thanks!
