Set up a new laptop without a password?

A colleague of mine was given a laptop without a password, which you can use to unlock Windows. I tried to delete the password using the BIOS, but unfortunately the BIOS requires an "Admin Password" which I do not have. Now the question, could you somehow expand the hard drive and connect it to another PC and delete the password, or everything that is on the hard drive except Windows'? (Win 8)

Lg and thanks for the help.

Usually the admin password in the BIOS is only there to protect the settings from being changed. But with many BIOS variants you can still do things, e.g. Instruct the BIOS to boot from a DVD or a USB stick.

And that would be the starting point. You can start the laptop with the Computerbild emergency DVD or emergency USB stick and then delete the Windows password of the desired Windows account.

Please give us details about this laptop, i.e. Manufacturer and model name and what kind of Windows version it is. Because with a Windows 2000 terminal server version this way would not work (even if the probability is very low that someone has installed such a system on a laptop).

And you would have the chance to find out with the manufacturer and model whether the BIOS password could be reset (for example, with many Dell Professional Laptops this is pretty much impossible without the help of the Dell Helpdesk)
