I have an old laptop standing around with me. But I wonder if it's even worth upgrading. The processor is the Intel (R) Core (TM) i3 CPU M 370 @ 2.40GHz 2.40 GHz.
RAM: 4GB
An HDD is installed.
My problem is that even surfing becomes a test of patience.
To increase the performance, I could add more RAM and an SSD.
Would it be worth it? VG
Honestly. No
Buy yourself a new one.
Upgrading laptops is not worthwhile in most cases anyway.
You can hardly upgrade laptops at all and if so, it's not worth it
Well… If it's unfortunately the first Core i laptop, if it were a 2nd or 3rd generation, you could think about an i5 or i7. With an i5 3220m you can still work well in connection with 8GB RAM and SSD.
But I would rather retire your device… What you could do would be to buy an SSD. But only if you could use them elsewhere, if the performance jump should be limited.
Possibly blow cooler through if you already have the hut open. The processor may be throttling due to overheating.
Whether it's worth it… Well, if you can use it for a few more years, maybe an SSD, for example, could be used if the laptop is disposed of.
Upgrade RAM, well, have two laptops in the house that are roughly comparable to yours. One has 8GB of RAM and an SSD. I recently got an i5 processor for a few euro and yes, it still runs quickly and it still does it for surfing, email and office. RAM is a somewhat more expensive investment, you actually have to decide for yourself, whether it is worthwhile and whether you intend to use the device for longer.
You may be able to upgrade the CPU.
However, you have to see if you have the BGA (soldered) or PGA (exchangeable) version of the i3-370M, if it is the PGA version, then an upgrade would still be possible.
