Why does everything hang when I connect a laptop with HDMI to a screen?

I play a lot on my gaming laptop. But the screen is too small for me. That's why I connected a screen with an HDMI cable. I now see the screen in large format. But now everything depends. When I move the mouse pointer, it hangs and slowly walks in that direction. By the way, it doesn't stop, it moves all the time in that direction, except when I move the mouse pointer in the other direction.
