How can I connect a Sony DCR TRV1 (Digital 8) camcorder to my ASUS laptop (ASUS KV95V)?

I would like to bring movies recorded in Digital8 format on the Sony DCR TRV1 camcorder for further processing on the hard disk of my laptop. How does that work, what are my options?

The problem is that I only have a composite output on the camcorder (analog) and a DVout output, on the laptop but only USB and HDMI sockets available, no Firewire port.

I now had the idea to connect the camcorder via a cable "DV out to HDMI" with the laptop and transfer the movies to the laptop. Now I have read in many places that this is not possible, because HDMI is only an output and no input. But there are masses of cables "" DV out on HDMI "offered, what should be good then? I'm not quite synonymous, because on the HDMI jack (my TV) I have a hard disk recorder and an external hard drive stuck and bring the signal from these devices to the TV, why should not work on the laptop.

For me, now the question arises, how do I bring now under the conditions mentioned my films in the laptop for post-processing, should I buy a cable: "DV out on HDMI", it works with it or not?

PS. According to specialist dealers, retrofitting with an Exppresscard or Firewire port is not possible, more or the dealer did not want to comment.

For a good advice and tip, I would be very grateful!

You have two options:

You can transfer your tape from a company to a DVD / USB stick, which will allow you to continue working on the PC. It's fast, cheap and easy for you.
You buy a USB video grabber (10-30 euro) and you play over your video on the PC. However, this is the worst quality way to dub videos, often causes technical problems.

Since your camcorder has a DV out, you can dub your video via Firewire easily. Maybe you will find someone in the circle of friends / acquaintances who has that. Many Apple computers can do that today.
