I would like to connect 2 screens to my laptop via the https://store.hp.com/...C3&sel=ACC.
I would like to connect screen 1 via HDMI, I would like to connect screen 2 via VGA (since only this connection is available). Unfortunately, when I connect both displays, my laptop does not find the VGA-connected screen (if I only connect the VGA display, it is recognized). I have already tried to connect screen 1 to the second via VGA and "only" connect it to the docking station via HDMI, unfortunately without success.
So please help and support.
The graphics card or the graphics chip in the laptop can only supply your own desktop and possibly a second one via the built-in port, regardless of whether you use a docking station or not. These stations are not a substitute for or do not have their own graphics card
Hi, I don't know the device. Therefore I can only deliver theoretical knowledge. Is it possible that the docking station is only designed on one screen? Even if it has two connections, it is possible that the station can only operate one screen at a time…
Otherwise I would advise you to contact the manufacturer if you have the thing new. They can then tell you directly what the problem is and whether there's a defect in your docking station.
Thank you for your prompt reply! What options do I have to connect a second monitor?
There are splitters that split / halve a graphic signal. Without reinforcement, there's always a loss of quality.
Could there be a possible solution to connect the VGA screen to the docking station and the HDMI screen directly to the laptop?
Could there be a possible solution to connect the VGA screen to the docking station and the HDMI screen directly to the laptop?
If you knew how complex the part of the graphics processing in a pc / laptop is, then you could easily judge that this small device is not able to work independently in addition to other functions such as a graphics card.
if the part gets the graphics signal from the second channel of the laptop graphics chip, then the second socket on the laptop is inactive.
Since the thing itself has two graphics ports (HDMI, VGA), you could try it out yourself, so that only one will work at a time.
I just don't know and (unfortunately) have little idea about it - that's why I'm asking here ;-)
Again the following starting point:
Laptop: HP EliteBook 840 G7 Notebook PC
External screen 1: HDMI connection (or various connection options)
External screen 2: VGA connection only
ONLY the screen with the HDMI connection runs via the https://store.hp.com/...C3&sel=ACC if both screens are connected.
a) Would this docking station run both screens?

b) Would the problem be solved with a VGA to HDMI adapter (or similar)?
