Laptop keyboard not working (login)?

My laptop suddenly couldn't use the keyboard anymore. Only the numbers on the right side work, and the letters are recognized when I press them (the login window opens), but the letters are not recognized when I type them.

Ow

Is there a key lock or a second function on the laptop? If the numeric keypad works, the keyboard will not be defective, I mean. Has a new software / driver been recently installed or a BIOS update carried out?

The best and fastest way to test the whole thing for functionality: connect a normal keyboard. This means that you can at least first check whether the laptop keyboard is functioning during normal operation.

Has the device been taken into the bathroom and exposed to steam, or has it come into contact with spilled drinks? Because if the keystrokes but not the individual letters are registered, there's some input mode or a short circuit at work.

It would also be advisable to start Safe Mode. Depending on the operating system, this is a little different. But there's enough information on the web that can help you with this. In this mode you can e.g. Check whether the system works with the most necessary drivers and if necessary uninstall devices that are then reinitialized the next time the system is restarted (e.g. The keyboard).

If you have the installation medium at hand, you can also use it to start the device (change the boot order: often the F12 or F9 keys when starting the device / depending on the manufacturer) and try to perform a system restore. Maybe something can be solved with this.
