I would like to buy a laptop at the beginning of the semester in the near future, but I'm not sure what hardware it must have in order to meet the requirements of the degree.
The course is structured as follows:
I'm just fresh out of high school at university and don't really know what the demands are there. Accordingly, I don't know how much computing power my laptop needs when it says that CAD programs are used. Are these demanding simulations or do you do them in Tegel on the university's PCs?
I have a budget of 900 euro for the laptop. It should definitely have a good keyboard and generally good workmanship. I think 13 inch is also very useful for mobility.
It would be nice if someone with experience can help me whether I should take 16GB RAM instead of 8GB or a Ryzen 7 instead of an i5. Separate graphics card? Etc…
Basically, you rarely need a very good device in schools. For me, a SurfacePro is simply the best, you can take notes by hand or keyboard. Another big advantage is that you can write with the pen, so especially in a technical course you will probably have to do a lot with formulas and mathematics. Most of them are rather awkward to type with the keyboard. But it also costs a lot and you can practically only use it for school for gaming, it is not good at all. Netflix and such works quite well.
Yes, I've already considered that. There are convertibles out there that you can simply fold into a tablet. Then you would have both.
In fact, my current favorite is such a convertible, but now the question arises whether this laptop should have a Ryzen 7 4700U with 16GB RAM or a Ryzen 5 4500U with 8GB RAM.
In the price comparison, the two models are about 150-200 euro apart and I'm not sure whether 8GB RAM is sustainable.
Regarding the CPU, a Ryzen 5 would be enough for me, because the Ryzen 7 has 8 cores… A little overkill when I read PDF scripts most of the time, take notes and then at some point should do a simulation.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to expand RAM later on the device.
If you want to use cad on the laptop, I would definitely take 16gb ram and a better cpu.
Best ne ssd with enough memory.
Graphics card doesn't necessarily have to be for CAD.
