Why does the internet browser eat so much?

I use Opera and have noticed that my laptop often gets pretty hot for no reason, even though I only have the internet browser open. The Task Manager says that my Opera uses almost 1.5 GB of my main memory. I'm not an expert in the field right now, but that sounds like a lot, especially since I mostly use it only for Youtube and I do not have multiple tabs. Can't be that an Internet browser consumes more power than some video games.

I had the same problem with Chrome as well and I do not think it will be different with Firefox or any other program. Is that normal? Are there any processes running in the background, and if so, where can I possibly disable them?

Because it is hungry

What does "only" mean for YouTube? Video decoding is a high-performance task, nothing that just happens by the way.

I almost laughed.

My Chrome is currently using just 20 open tabs (without videos) as much memory, I do not think that is excessive in video. All good.
