Studio recording microphone not working?

My microphone is connected to a Steinberg your 22mkII interface, which in turn is connected to my laptop. The laptop recognizes the interface and the interface also recognizes the microphone (peaks are displayed). However, no sound is transmitted to my software. Why is that?

Check the software settings to see if the microphone is selected as input.

I can't select the microphone myself as input, just the interface.
