HP laptop Linux problems?

Have an old HP Compaq 6715s on which I wanted to have a slim Linux store.

Hardware:

AMD Sempron Mobile (I don't know which)

2 GB RAM

Radeon graphics chip

HDD

Now the problem is that no distro I have tried works:

Slackware (with GUI) (64 bit and 32 bit)

antiX (64bit and 32bit)

Bodhi (64bit and 32bit)

more slim…

Every Linux crashes with the same error. The screen turns black during installation or use and there's no more hard drive activity. The computer also no longer responds to entries. But continues to run anyway. Only a "hard reset" helps

Why is that? The hardware has no defect because everything works perfectly in Windows XP, which I don't want to use because it is no longer supported.

I would try Linux Mint. It works on many platforms.

My CPU will probably melt away. Even Ubuntu 8 didn't work either.

Have you ever tried Lubuntu?
