I have an HP laptop (256 SSD, 8 RAM, AMD…) with Windows 10 Home.
Now I'm really keen on the old school feeling and want to start older applications and games again.
As already described the question, I would like to install Windows XP on a Windows 10 laptop. Unfortunately I no longer have a CD but I still have a license code for Windows XP Home.
I have tried a lot but it always failed with "no older versions can be installed" (something like that)
And please don't come to me with virtual PCs, I want the whole thing.
I don't want to buy a CD either because I have a license. (also no CD without license)
So I would like to go on the download path.
Can you help me there?
Links are welcome here.
I would be happy to receive one or two helpful answers.
I'm thankful for every answer!
You can install a VM (virtual machine), e.g. Download VMWare and then the WinXP iso from Microsoft and install it in the VM.
Thanks, but as I wrote, no VMs
Then install the Iso via USB
As far as I know, with XP the license was still connected to the medium, i.e. The license code was on the CD. If you no longer have the CD, it will be difficult if you want to stay legal.
Are you sure that XP can handle your hardware?
Testing is above studying
Then boot?
So the iso on a stick and then boot from the stick
That will probably be nothing. You haven't described your laptop in more detail, but I'm assuming that it can't even start with a 32-bit operating system. If your Win 10 were also a 32 bit system, it could work theoretically with a boot manager, but where do you want to get the drivers for your computer from? Sound card, network card. Motherboard, CPU?
Doesn't that install automatically when installing xp?
I've already burned 2 to cd. Didn't work. What am I doing wrong? Where can I find a correct XP ISO file? Can you send me a link
64 bit
The new AMD processors no longer support anything older than Windows 7, including Windows XP. The only way, even if you don't want to, is through a virtual machine.
No, when XP was running, your laptop didn't exist yet, how is the old XP supposed to know what it was built in the future? And since it is no longer sold, there are logically no more drivers for what was installed in your laptop. And your 64 bit laptop couldn't do anything with a 32 bit system anyway.
Yes ok, you know, I hung yesterday or today from 8pm to 2am to install windows xp on a virtual machine. Always error, problem, error code… I can no longer read it. I downloaded Virtualbox. How does it work to install Win XP on it? Can you please recommend another virtual machine? And if there's an ISO that works?
OK.
For me it works with virtualbox, I don't know any other. https://windowsupdates.jimdofree.com/windows-iso-images/
there are some, they look okay from the file size
Thank you.
Do I have to unpack something with winrar?
No, with VirtualBox you can import the ISO directly and have it booted.
OK. So is that foolproof? Download and then start this file directly with the VM without unpacking anything
Yup, I just tried it myself. Everything works. You simply create a new machine and then select the file when it starts.
Again it doesn't work. I downloaded it now and it is exactly the same as with every isos I downloaded: "No new session could be opened for the virtual machine XP-PC."
I really do not know how to continue.
Do you have a 32-bit machine? With 64-bit AMD is even more complicated. Otherwise I can't help you anymore
Can you email me? I can give you my number and you explain everything to me exactly. If everything works you will get 5 euro from me via PayPal. OK? You don't have to do it, you can continue here.
My email is codyrambo99@gmail.com
Do you know about this virtual box? Could you show me how it works? If so, please feel free to contact me by email. I'll give you my phone number and we can write on WhatsApp. If XP works with this virtual machine you will get 5 euro from me via PayPal. Only if you agree.
Of course I can help!
