Laptop in the passenger compartment but hand luggage in the cargo hold?

Now I have received the message that it may be that I can't have the hand luggage in the passenger compartment. No problem for me, except that I want to take my laptop with me. I'm afraid to take the laptop with me when the luggage is in the cargo hold, because the suitcases are not treated very carefully, you can't blame people, but I'm afraid that the laptop will break.
