A relative continues to use a Windows 10 laptop after a death. It has already been switched from Microsoft account to local account - nevertheless the name of the deceased is still linked to the device - e.g. For users… How can that be changed?
Easiest option: create another user, log in with this user and (if desired) delete the previous user.
The cleanest option: Back up anything you may still need and reinstall Windows.
Why not just delete the Microsoft account and log it off everywhere and give the local account all rights
We tried that. When the device is started, the name of the new user is now displayed - the previous name still appears in Explorer
Thank you very much, let's try that:-)
Funnily enough, the first name is even "Hans" ;-)
Very pretty, that saves time. ^^
And if for some reason it doesn't work either (stupid Windows 10 with its unfathomable curiosities): I wouldn't know of a single case in which Windows had dragged along anything beyond a clean reinstallation.
Cmd as admin and then
wmic useraccount where name = 'oldName' rename newName
