Many say that an upgrade to 16GB RAM is not worthwhile with the new mac Book air m1 because it is so fast and apps open quickly. It is normal for a laptop to slow down after 2 or 3 years. My question is whether I can delay that with 16 GB of RAM. So with 16 GB of RAM, does it take longer to slow down?
8 GB of RAM is already too little for 2021
I don't know what Apple was thinking. Yes, ARM uses less RAM than Intel processors, but still.
16 GB is recommended.
In the end it is your decision. But keep in mind that you can't upgrade anything later.
That ultimately depends on the software you are using. This is completely sufficient for the OS and standard software. It all works very efficiently. You need to know what you're going to do with it and how memory-intensive it is.
You also have to consider that software is becoming more and more demanding and, over time, places higher demands on the hardware. 8 GB sounds very little to me, but the ARM platform in connection with MacOs puts that into perspective. Nevertheless, I would personally go to 16 GB, that makes the thing more future-proof and also more stable in value.
But if you are interested in my very personal opinion: I would not buy Apple products. If you already see what Apple wants for 16 GB of RAM, I get sick.
