I need a laptop for university. Now the question arises for me? I've had bad experiences with Asus, but I've never had a Mac book air / pro and the reviews are good too. So I also considered buying a mac book air, but then I thought maybe the pro is better…
an Asus would be financially cheaper for me, but well, the apple mac books can always be updated (in contrast to an Asus)
does anyone have experience with Apple / Asus?
One air is sufficient for the university
Budget? What exactly should be done with it? What size? What can he weigh?
What exactly do you mean by "but well you can always bring the apple mac books up to date (in contrast to an Asus)"
Hardware or software? Asus has most likely installed Windows for the software and that (unlike Android, where it depends heavily on the device manufacturer and hardly on Google, unless you have a pixel or Android One device) is provided with updates directly from Microsoft for years, you only have to update the drivers occasionally, but even that, I have several computers that have been around for a few years, among others With i5 of the first generation where Windows 7 just came and it also runs without problems on Windows 10.
No idea how long Apple will bring updates for older computers, but I guess that major updates like from 10.13 to 10.14 will be over in less than 10 years and you will only get security patches.
With the hardware, everything is now soldered to Apple, you can only replace the battery, but not upgrade with memory, SSD, WLAN card etc., so you have to pay hefty surcharges when you buy it, have fun with a defect if you have one can't even remove the SSD and has no backup, these are disposable devices
Admittedly, many other RAMs have been soldered in the meantime, but sometimes a slot for expansion and SSD and WLAN have not been soldered.
In addition, all MacBooks except the new 16er have the error-prone butterfly keyboard mechanism.
How bad experiences with Asus, please give details, especially the model, by the way, do you have blinders on? There are not only Asus and Apple, but countless other brands, what about Dell, Fujitsu, Lenovo, HP, MSI, Acer, Gigabyte, Microsoft Surface.
The business series of the first four brands in particular: Dell Latitude / Precision, Fujitsu Lifebook, Lenovo ThinkPad and HP Probook / Elitebook are not exactly cheap, but they have an excellent reputation and good quality, but you can smoke some consumer series in the pipe,
Would also be helpful if you would name a few basic conditions, budget up to how much euro, minimum or maximum display diagonal (13.3 ", 14", 15.6 "or even 17.3"?) Maximum weight, how much RAM, Fixed memory (SSD) etc. Then I can also name a few more candidates than a MacBook Air, Pro or "the" Asus.
