So i'm not a specialist either, but still a few comments:
1. / vista or win7 are out of date. Currently win10.
2. / a 12 GB hard drive is not enough at the back and not at the front. Mine has 500 GB plus an external hard drive with 3 TB (I think it is 3000 GB - roughly).
3. / I go to a proper specialist shop - I could give you e.g. Recommend mine if you live in the Memmingen area. They put together what you need and how, and they are guaranteed not to cost more, but usually even less than saturn or mediamarkt. And he will advise you and prepare the device for you so that it works after you switch it on.
Basically every manufacturer has more or less recommendable models in their portfolio. Among other things, I can recommend the Lenovo ThinkPads from the T series. If a good used and / or refurbished device is also an option for you, I would perhaps consider a ThinkPad T450 / T550. The models from the T series are primarily known for their robust workmanship and easy expandability. I now own five of them myself and I'm very satisfied with them. Even my old T420s still run without complaint and still keep up with everyday life.
Instead of the ThinkPads there would be the Elite and ProBooks from HP, especially the 850 G2 or the Latitude's from Dell such as the E7450. In addition to my ThinkPads, I also use a 17 "HP from the ENVY series and I have nothing to complain about. The aluminum body makes it relatively stable. If the notebook is only used for school (office and internet), it would be Last but not least, I also recommend an older ThinkPad T420 / s. These are still traded relatively high today, but with a bit of luck you can get one of these at relatively cheap via eBay classifieds. I spent between 60 and 100 euro on mine more RAM, another SSD and a new battery and have actually been used continuously since then.
Addendum:
I have probably overlooked LOL, so some of the devices mentioned fall out, because in such a case you should rely on a model that has a dedicated graphics card. I would have to look around myself first, as gaming was never my focus. For me, notebooks are primarily a portable office.
