Hard drive can't be formatted. Malfunction?

I just started taking care of my laptop before. He started to slow down weeks ago so I wanted to rewrite Windows. I had that before now but when formatting he has me on the first try after a few minutes only the error formatting not possible. After that it was after about 1 1/2 hours. Did not do anything why I've made him out. Then I wanted to format the plate under mint which did not work. Then I tried Manjaro and Ubuntu and all came again the error that the disk can't be formatted. The disk is still recognized by all OS and also in the BIOS. But I assume that the defect is? What would be really sad for WD since she is only about 3 years old.

That has SMART - let's see under linux what is in there.

So you have the current system formatted the system disk or how did you do it?

Ma

I recommend CrystalDiskInfo
At least under Windows.

If you have a Linux lying around, just boot into a live environment and run there "smartctl -a / dev / sda" (possibly with sudo) to see if the disk itself reports errors. If so, then it's over…

PS: I already had some broken records, and all were still recognized. If some sectors are broken somewhere on the disk, it will still be detected, the electronics are still working.

This is already in the linux disk manager, via CTRL-S

If Windows does not run on the disk, then the best windows programs will not help.

Linux, however, can be started live from DVD or USB pen. On the Linux desktop, all programs can be started, even if the hard disk of the computer is removed or defective.

Here I take Parted Magic, this is a live Linux with many hard disk repair and analysis tools. An older version is free, the current version I have synonymous, costs less than 10 euro and can be easily bootable on DVD or USB pen copied.

He did not say that his Windows is gone.
He said he wanted to rebuild it but it failed in formatting.
