I took my old Packard Bell laptop from 2006 in the attic and wanted to make it able to sell.
Unfortunately I forgot the password for the HDD (not for Windows) and it doesn't start in the BIOS to make a new Windows installation.
How can I format the hard drive or at least remove the password?
It is not a SATA hard drive so you can't insert a new one.
Would be perfect if someone could help me.
The password is not for the HDD, but for the BIOS.
Can you put in another IDE HDD, the password will still be there.
Except for flashing the bios or clearing the CMOS, you couldn't get in there
To reset the password, you can also remove the CMOS battery for 15-30 minutes.
But without a hard drive I get into the BIOS, …
Without a hard drive I get into the BIOS, …
I'm now in the CMD via Windows 10 stick. But "list disk" should be wrong.
So, I think in bios you have to encrypt this hard drive. Without a password you can neither write it down nor read it.
Does that mean I can throw the laptop away?
I find it unnecessary to buy a new hard drive for the old laptop.
So there's no chance?
No, you don't have to throw the laptop away. Just change the hard drive and that's it! You can find cheap hdd hard drives at amazon!
You can also format the hard drive from a Linux system!
No, I have already tried Linux via USB stick. He shows me an output error and when I try, the laptop sticks and freezes.
