Laptop server?

Can you turn your laptop into a server for zmb html pages if so how,

does it work the same way as with a pc?

Ro

You can do that - e.g. About XAMPP.

But it is not particularly optimal in terms of power consumption.

Ti

A laptop is a PC

You can install there and do what you want.

It's actually not designed for 24/7 operation, but it doesn't matter in the consumer area.

I would recommend a Linux distribution e.g. Debian
I offer websites with nginx, for php there's php-fpm

Ir

How do you think about electricity consumption

Se

You have the option of installing a web server on your laptop. For that I recommend XAMPP.

XAMPP has an Apache server (web server)
MYSQL Server as well.

Ic

Sure, I made one of my Schleppis a web server (Apache, MariaDB, PHP - all 64 bit). Works pretty well for smaller applications.

Ro

Well, if you want to run your laptop - which also produces a lot in terms of warmth - with a few hundred watts all day long…

Will be expensive in the long run and is rather suboptimal in terms of fire protection.

Ti

Of course, you always have to think about power consumption if you want to host at home.

However, I doubt that a) the laptop uses 100W for most tasks and b) is "expensive" very relatively.
My server runs idle with 40W, that's 28kWh per month and at 24ct per kWh we're at ~ 7 euro / m

Le

Yes, you can also install servers on a laptop and run websites on it. The procedure is the same as with a PC.

Ro

But doubt that a) the laptop uses 100W for most tasks

Of course it depends on the device - unfortunately the information is missing.

My server runs idle with 40W, that's 28kWh per month and at 24ct per kWh we're at ~ 7 euro / m

On the bill I would find 100W quite expensive - I would rather use a provider (actually anyway) or use another device.

A Raspberry would be great locally.

Ti

Some just want / need independence from providers and the Internet.

And a RaspberryPi can't do everything that is absolutely necessary.
Clear. He still manages to deliver websites

Ro

Sure, sure:-)

But with such a question, I personally assume that it won't be anything big - a laptop as a web server is not exactly ideal either.

Ir

But a pc consumes a lot more than a laptop or not

Ro

It depends on the device - but generally yes, yes - for small projects, a smaller device is sufficient. In my opinion, a laptop is a greater fire load.

I don't know what you're up to either. If it's just an HTML page for private use, a Raspberry is enough.

You can still pay more than 12 euro per month with the laptop at 100 watts - which I find quite a lot as a private person for the fact that I can get a domain and web space for around 3 euro a month…

Ir

Have looked my laptop consumes a maximum of 90 watts but if you put a web server on it, it is not used to full capacity?
