If you book a private room with Airbnb and share the apartment or house with the landlord, can you lock the room from the outside when you go out?

For example, if you go to the beach, you leave all your valuables in the room and you would feel more comfortable if you could lock the room.

If e.g. Laptop, camera, credit cards, passport or money in the room can no longer be recovered, who should you then be held responsible? The landlord?

I want to travel through a country, along the coast in 6-7 places. I have compared many prices and the cheapest way I can get away with Airbnb! But must also be safe

AirBnB sometimes offers individual rooms that are part of an apartment - but also real separate accommodation.
