I need a new printer that can scan and copy at the same time. Now I also use a laptop with XP - but only for typing. I actually don't want to dispose of it because it's still going well for these purposes.
So now my old printer has said goodbye - are there any new printers that also have drivers for XP?
Canon MG 5750:

MG 5750 drivers:

Not anymore. But here's a tip from me:
Since you only use the laptop for typing anyway, I recommend installing the Linux distribution Bodhi Linux on it. Then you can use current printers again. In addition, Bodhi Linux only needs half of the system resources that Windows XP would otherwise need.
Here is the download of the ISO: https://sourceforge.net/...o/download
After the download you have to write the ISO with Unetbootin https://unetbootin.github.io/ on an empty FAT32 formatted USB stick and then boot the stick. If you can't boot from the USB stick, there's a solution for this too: The Plop Boot Manager Six. This is a boot CD that contains a USB boot loader and makes it possible to boot from the stick if the PC and laptop do not support it. Here is the download: https://download.plop.at/pbm6/pbm6-test-20200420.zip Then unzip the ZIP. Pbm6.iso is located in the 1_default folder and then in the cdrom subfolder. Then burn them with this tool http://www.freeisoburner.com/ onto an empty CD.
Then insert the CD, insert the stick, switch on and boot from the CD. After a short time a boot menu appears and you can then boot the stick.
Wait until the desktop appears. Here is an instruction video on how to install Bodhi Linux:
After completing the installation and restarting for the first time, do the following. To do this, start Terminology (you can find it in the Start menu) and enter the following there:
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
A dialog box for setting up the keyboard layout may appear. You have to use the keyboard to do this. Simply select German there.
sudo apt install cups system-config-printer gdebi dkms lintian synaptic
sudo apt clean
Then restart.
And this is how you set up a printer: First connect the printer and switch it on. Then enter the following into Terminology:
system-config-printer
Then the printer setup wizard appears. It is self-explanatory. After setting up the printer, simply print out the test page.
Here is another Office package for Linux that runs smoothly even on older systems: https://www.freeoffice.com/download.php?filename=https://www.softmaker.net/down/softmaker-freeoffice-2018_976-01_i386.deb This is called SoftMaker Freeoffice and consists of text, tables and presentation. It is installed with a double click.
