Lenovo DOS?

I wanted to buy a laptop and found one from Lenovo (Ideapad 5) with AMD, but the description of the operating system says: DOS. What does that mean? Is there no Windows installed?

There's no Windows installed

exactly, there's no Windows on it. You will have to take care of an operating system yourself - either install Windows (and buy a valid license) or rely on an open system such as Linux

Thanks for your answer! Really outrageous for the price.

Since you do not name the model, no statement can be made about it.

But no, I wouldn't call it rude. Without an operating system, the price is cheaper - and if you plan to use Linux anyway, for example, the Windows fee would only be unnecessary.

My Lenovo Thinkpad T495, which I run purely with Manjaro Linux, also came without an operating system, although it cost around 1,000 euro - the part would have been even more expensive with Windows, although I didn't even want to use it

Sometimes devices are offered without Windows… This is especially interesting for those who want to install Linux or similar anyway. Such devices are typically 50-100 EUR cheaper than those where Windows is already preinstalled, because you save the license fee.

You can of course still install a Windows on your own.

The pre-installed DOS is actually useless… The entire operating system is just something between 5 and 20 MB in size… Depending on the equipment. Unless you want to mess around with DOS… But you wouldn't normally buy a new notebook for that. The DOS system is only installed to show when switched on:

Look: system is running! Screen does it too.

… And because the manufacturer can do this for free.
