I want to create a network and I have to attach devices such as printers, laptop and various LAN sockets. Now the question is how can I, for example, connect the laptop to the printer, or if I go now to a port of the switch, then I have all the signals? Are the inputs clearly assigned to the outputs or is the data transmission going crosswise via CSMA / CD?
Simply plug in, the rest should regulate your dhcp and the ports are identical for most. There are a few switches with special poe ports, but you certainly will not need them.
That usually depends on the switch.
The home devices are often not even manageable. If you now connect printer to port1 and laptop to port2, it should work.
Otherwise, various configurations are necessary on the device.
What kind of switch is it?
A switch, or at least the plastic switch as is common in households, is just a semi-intelligent distributor.
You simply plug the LAN cable into the switch from any network device and everything is (almost) good.
In order for your network to work, the individual devices still need IP addresses. You can configure this manually on each device or you have a DHCP server in the network that automatically handles this distribution. (in your Internet router, for example, such a dhcp is integrated)
