St

The MacBook is just a sad joke for the price, and the problems keep piling up

Also 8th Gen & DDR3 Ram…

Gu

So the Macbook is bad or how?

St

The price performance is in no way correct with the MacBook, practically not repairable & outdated hardware. Thanks to catalina, all x86 programs are also eliminated

ha

You can't compare the two devices with each other because they have very different concepts.

I would clearly prefer the MacBook just because of the operating system. In terms of performance, this is completely sufficient.

Pe

It depends on the question, which OS do you need? MacOSX then take the Macbook, if you need Windows or Linux, take the Surface Laptop!
I would take the Macbook because I'm programming for MacOSX, then you MUST use a MacBook. If you do multitasking, rendering and things like that, you should take the laptop with more RAM, i.e. The Surface Laptop!

I'm happy if you click on "Helpful"!

wa

Mac book for sure

Pe

The MacBook is technically worse, but Apple gets more out of it than anybody else with the operating system. That's why both are the same! Just take the laptop where you can use more, so from the operating system and such…

St

Oh well. The operating system is more of a toy than a serious system, but yes.

Gu

What do you mean by enough? You can use it to cut videos

Fi

I have a Macbook Pro myself and can absolutely recommend it

Pe

But Apple makes a hard cut, not like Microsoft who might look at it, but it might not work either, you can see…

Pe

Well, I don't think so, in this case opinions are divided and that's why you can't really compare!

ha

Anyway, the MacBook is perfect for video editing, especially if you work with Apple software like Final Cut.

St

There's no reason to completely do without x86 - except, of course, forcing users to buy new apps that replace the apps that are no longer available

St

Likes to run thermal throttling and encoding takes much longer than other laptops

Pe

If you really deal with the topic, you will see why Apple does it! Maybe listen to the arguments.
1. You don't have to install 10.15 and 2. The apps are also developed further and then come back

St

Does not change the attitude, the poor hardware & maintainability, the toy OS and the excessive price for the offered.

But have the money pulled out of your pocket.

Pe

If you don't inform yourself, there's no point in discussing! What are the reasons for you to insult the operating system? I would be interested

St

That I keep dealing with Macs at work and it was the worst OS I had to deal with.

Pe

Please tell the reasons! If you don't say the reasons, it's not worth arguing with you

St

Let's take folder merging as an example.

If you have a folder named A and copy it to a folder where a folder named A already exists, a good OS should ask if the folders should be merged.

MacOS doesn't do this. MacOS just overrides that. The merge function will also not be shown until you pull it while holding the Cmd key.

if you have done this and there are randomly the same files (by name) in both folders, you only have the option to keep the newer file - there's no comparison, no way to skip individual files, etc.

and something runs through the entire OS…

Pe

Do you have your own Mac? If so, have a look at the settings, you can set something like this with a good OS!

St

No, I'm glad that I don't have to do the OS outside of work

St

Furthermore, I do not support Apple's pricing policy for the overpriced hardware. I prefer to use high-quality devices such as XPS or Thinkpads

Ma

What problems do you have with this Mac?

Ma

"[…] A good OS should ask if the folders should be merged. […]"

This supposedly good operating system therefore relieves the user of thinking.

What exactly is a merge for you other than the merging of two folders, whereby the newer version of duplicate files remains? That's exactly what happens in macOS, only without asking.

St

This supposedly good operating system therefore relieves the user of thinking.

no, it gives the user the option to decide what exactly wants to happen

than merging two folders, leaving the newer version of duplicate files

you don't ALWAYS want to keep the latest file.

Even Windows gives you the option to choose which of the two files you want to keep based on the size and the modification date. You have a choice - and you are not forced to always use the latest file as with MacOS.

St

If we just take a look at the hardware:

i5 the 8th Gen, 8GB DDR3 (obsolete, not expandable, not interchangeable), 256GB SSD (not expandable, not interchangeable), the T2 chip, etc.

And that for, let me guess, a mere 1500 euro?

EDIT: Even better, it is listed at Apple for 2000: ok

Pe

He is simply a critic because he is against the price, you can't help, he has something in his head and then he only wants to be against Apple, I don't think he likes anything from Apple, or he even has an Apple Device! I think the prices are expensive, but Apple is also good at developments and makes hard cuts

St

If you see it that way, of course you can't argue with you. The price is just an argument against it. I brought arguments, but you act on fanboy…

Apple has not been really good since Jobs died and has lost a lot of quality. But yes. The discussion doesn't make sense anyway, since you don't really argue either.

Ma

Yes, exactly, Windows is the operating system for users who don't know what they want until they see a menu in front of them where they can choose from two dozen options.

St

No, Windows gives you more control options. Microsoft is much better than Apple…

Apple, on the other hand, forces exactly one operation without being able to control it

Ma

I asked you about the problems with this Mac and you tell me something about supposedly outdated hardware and prices that are too high? So you don't have this Mac at all and you are only blanket against Apple. It is certainly exhausting, you have my pity.

St

Like to continue to be an Apple fan boy, it makes no sense here anyway. If I remember correctly, you also defended that e.g. Can no longer replace the memory.

about supposedly outdated hardware and too high prices

because that's a big Apple problem, but it doesn't matter.

Rather, you have my condolences that you also support these business practices.

But yes, it is better to stop here now. Therefore nice evening, this discussion lasted long enough.

Ma

"[…] because that's a big Apple problem […]"

No.

It's just your big problem.

Ma

If you already know what you want, you don't need any additional tax options. They only unnecessarily complicate lean processes.

That is the difference between the Apple and Windows philosophies.

Windows wants to keep all options open for as many users as possible. This requires ever more powerful hardware because the structures are becoming more and more complex.

Apple limits the system to what is necessary, automates many processes, which is why it remains slim and performs even better on supposedly poorer hardware.

As a gamer, you will probably never understand that there are people who don't need excessive settings, but a solid work tool that they don't have to tinker with every year or two.

St

You still talk about it 3 hours later even though you wanted to stop? And now I'm talking bad about myself because I'm a gamer and could never imagine it? All right. You disqualify yourself more and more.

it's about the POSSIBILITY to do something on the device and not have to buy a new one because you want more

Ma

I agree. Why should you want more as long as the existing device simply does what it is supposed to?

You want more because that's what Windows is used to and for the sake of wanting to, and Apple also likes to be because you want more if you want it to. Stick with Windows, but don't try to bad-mouth Apple just because you don't want to understand how Apple works.

You're not the only gamer that is. I don't know of anyone who would ever be satisfied with hardware or software for more than a few weeks. It still has to be more.

St

At some point this is not enough in the current configuration. With other devices you can then increase the RAM or the hard disk, but not with this one.

Ie I can use my device for a few more years, with only low costs, for you it will be several thousand euro again…

I'm bad at Apple because of its practices, and that's my right. Because unfortunately some companies look at what is bad for the whole market.

I'm quite happy with my hardware. My laptop for university and work is even a 4th generation i5, which I upgraded months ago and will continue to use for some time thanks to a new SSD and new screen (FullHD instead of 768p). It would be even longer if I could install 16GB RAM, but unfortunately it is not possible

So please don't generalize just because you let yourself be milked
