I'm technically gifted in many ways, but I have never really dealt with laptops and PCs. I wanted to buy a used MacBook on eBay Classifieds. I wanted to spend 600 euro. For this price there are sometimes 2015-16 models. I mostly need the MacBook for school supplies, some research, keeping an eye on stocks, Netflix, and picture / video editing.
My question now is, from which "year of construction" is it still worth buying a used MacBook? I don't know how long a MacBook will last or what it looks like with OS updates. I'm grateful for all tips and information! 😊
I think that an Intel MacBook is no longer worth it. The era of the Intel Macs is coming to an end, and it is difficult to predict when support will be cut entirely.
Rosetta was pulled along for 5 years at the time, but I can well imagine that support will quickly be slashed to the current generation.
In general, I would not buy any products from this money-hungry company.
That is of course your opinion, but doesn't help me much in that case.
Caught Bad Time!
At the moment it is really the worst time to get a used Intel Macbook, because Apple has only just started to switch its product range to its own M1 chips based on ARM.
In the worst-case scenario, this would mean that the software support is rather meager for you and after a short time you will no longer be served by Apple.
Proposed solution
I know impatience is a big point! But if you would save yourself a little more budget, you could get the current MacBook Air M1 for 1100 euro. It would be more than, it must be said, overpowered for your projects! If it doesn't necessarily have to be a Macbook (an iPad with a Pencil is more worthwhile at school anyway), you could also get the current Mac mini M1. That would be even more in your budget with just under 800 euro.
That is a very, very helpful answer, thank you. Now the thing is, I wouldn't really spend 600 euro on it, it's a little different. I'm a shoe reseller, bought shoes for 100 euro and now sell them for 300-350 euro or rather swap them. Got an offer to swap them for a small extra charge for a MacBook Pro late 2013.
Definitely no!
The MacBook Pro Late 2013 is currently still (you try) with around 450-650 euro traded on the popular platforms such as Ebay classifieds and Co. But the new M1 chips also threaten the absolute price decline! So of course everyone tries to repel.
The negative sticks to you that you may already have problems installing the latest Mac version Big Sur, which of course would mean in the future that future software updates will be even more problematic or not take place at all.
It's like, now that the PS5 has been released, someone wants to turn on the PS3, although there's still a PS4 Pro if you don't want to buy the 5 series.
It wouldn't be a worthwhile business for you.
