Currently I'm looking for a laptop to program, as my old laptop is slowly but surely forcing its knees.
I just wanted to buy the MacBook Pro 15 ", but I'd like to consider other laptops before that.
On the laptop, the following things should be able to run and the following bars:
Workspaces with approx. 1 million lines of code
Several docker containers
Various servers for DEV environments
Fast compilation
The laptop should have the following specifications:
Display size: 15 "
Resolution: QHD, also like 4K
Processor: i7, like i9; 9th generation
Memory: 16GB
Memory: 500GB and SSD NVMe
Weight: up to 2.5kg
Important connections: At least one Thunderbolt 3 connection
Budget: up to 3,500 euro
Look at Hardwaredealz, there you will find the best value for money.
I do not know now whether it (or successor) still exists, but Lenovo once had the W series (I know it to the W520) with 120 watt power supply and explicitly built for Dauerhöchstbelastung.
Otherwise laptops are rarely designed as workstations.
DELL had something in the program, I think the series was called vostro…
Thanks, but only gaming laptops are covered there.
So my Lenovo P52 is really fun at work. For the money you get a good i7, 64GB RAM and a decent SSD and a Quadro if necessary for your work. But buy yourself a good backpack, I say only: 170-watt power supply… 8-D
P as performance is the successor to the W as Workstation series.
Yes, I'm getting old.
:) these are real workhorses, huh? High performance bulls, so to speak…
Yes, as formerly the W, without much frills. One is smiled on the train because he looks (and weighs) like a 5 year old normal laptop and when the fan comes on, people take cover. If the whole X1-Carbon Hipster knew what a real computer can do.
Thumbs up. I have finished.
This is an announcement. But what about connected devices? At work we have a souped-up HP ZBook 15 G5 workstation and have problems with the drivers with connected hardware.
Thanks for your suggestion. Lenovo really seems to be a good choice. The XPS series from DELL does not look too bad either.
I own an XPS 15 (the best expensive one). But only because of the design, woman wants something chic. I can run two servers and do whatever I want. Disadvantage: no optical drive.
