Today I unscrewed a broken laptop out of curiosity and looked at the mainboard. This area caught my eye:
If you search for the motherboard model number on Google, you will find pictures in which these inlets are populated. Does anyone know what could be put into it?
Could be the place for a graphics processor
You can't stick anything to it. That has to be soldered on. The shape suggests a CPU, but since a CPU should already be built into the laptop, the space is provided for something else. Either the mainboard has connections for different CPU sockets or that is e.g. For a graphics chip or for WLAN / Bluetooth.
Socket for an additional graphics chip and 4 memory modules.
These are solder pads for chips in the BGA housing.
Under certain circumstances there could be space for an external GPU with the VRAMs around it, which is not equipped with this laptop because the CPU may have an internal GPU.
Further up next to the MSata you can also see the unpopulated pads for the voltage converters.
