Unfortunately, today my laptop went down on its knees.
But I need a new one as soon as possible and would therefore like to ask you for advice: which laptop should I buy.
Conditions:
Certain CAD and simulation programs should run smoothly.
14 inches or larger
Battery life performance is not "very" important
Average price.
Hmm well how about a lonovo? E.g. A t495s or something?! ^^
Actually, you can buy a used Lenovo Thinkpad, as a student I think you can even buy it new from Lenovo with a discount.
Otherwise a Dell XPS, laptops in the middle price segment are unfortunately mostly not usable. What exactly is kapput with you? If the BIOS / UEFI (i.e. Sees the laptop logo, but Windows does not), the hard drive may be broken. Then you can just install an SSD and whack Windows on top of it.
The question is what do you mean by mid-range price. I have a Dell XPS 15 (9550, a slightly older version) and am satisfied except for the battery. Since it has a 4K monitor, it eats up a lot of battery, but there's also one without the 4K monitor. Now I don't know what system requirements you need for these programs, but I mainly use my laptop for image processing, i.e. Photoshop, Lightroom etc. And it works smoothly. It's a 15 inch laptop btw. If you want to know something about the properties:
Dell XPS 15 9550
Intel Core i7 6700HQ
16 GB DDR4 RAM
500GB SSD + 600 GB HDD
nVidia GeForce GTX 960M with 2 GB RAM
These are the characteristics of my laptop.
