Restore pc?

Have a question I just reset my laptop because I didn't know the password and couldn't reset it, but realized too late that I still had important things on the laptop, can I restore them somehow or are they gone forever?

I do think that they are gone forever, that's why I don't do that… Better without a laptop or, if possible, buy a new one
