I just updated my laptop from Ubuntu 19.04 to 19.10 and now it no longer boots up but is constantly in this splash menu. Despite all attempts to fix the nosplash in the Grub menu, nothing helps, what can I do?
http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/GRUB_2/Shell#Menue-Bearbeitungs-Modus Something should be written here
But I have already changed it and then pressed F10 to reboot which ended up in the splash screen
Maybe reinstall or use a different version?
How am I supposed to do that if I don't even get in
Only a live system can help 😖
I've also had really bad experiences with Ubuntu upgrades. In the meantime I only install new ones over it when a new LTS version comes out. By the way, 19.10 has already been announced. So please use 04/20 or 04/21. Or preferably no Ubuntu at all…
I'm absolutely not at all familiar with Linux in general 😅 That's why I wanted to update to 04/20 but before that (I've read) you have to update to 10/19 (from 04/19) and well, it didn't work.
What do you suggest i do?
That's right. An upgrade across versions is not possible.
My recommendation: reinstall Ubuntu… But the LTS 20.04.2 directly
You could probably solve this with Live System and Chroot, but since you are not familiar with Linux, a new installation is the simpler option. Sorry
Okay thank you.
Should I just have a look on the Internet, how best to reinstall Linux or do you have a site or something that you can recommend to me?
The question is: what distribution do you want? Again Ubuntu with GNOME or something else?
If Ubuntu:
Download Ubuntu ISO: https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop
Write ISO to USB using Balena Etcher: https://www.balena.io/...io/etcher/
Insert the USB stick
Change the boot order on USB (either permanent or select it in the boot menu).
Follow the instructions of the installer.
In addition to Ubuntu, I can particularly recommend for beginners:
Linux Mint 20.1 linuxmint.com/
Gecko Linux static: geckolinux.github.io/
I've had good experiences with this, even though I've now ended up with openSUSE Tumbleweed.
Can you get into a TTY console via Ctrl + Alt + F2 (or another F key)?
