What do I have to do so that the Toshiba Satellite 940U -100 continues to boot from the loading screen (read context)?

After a friend just closed his laptop this morning when he was probably just about to update something or at least announced an update, he later, when I wanted to turn it on again, showed a blue box (see picture) by saying something of "a proper digital signature was not found ". This was indicated for a while, then he went out.

I googled the error message and found something about it. I then did what was advised there. (In BIOS → Security → Secure Boot from enabled to disable.)

Great. Error message is gone and it does not go out after 1 minute.

BUT it does not boot up despite the advice being carried out, but remains in the first display all the time, which is displayed immediately after it is switched on. So the picture that is displayed shortly before booting. (See image.)

I don't have a WIN10 DVD or USB. Because I bought it with the WIN10 update back then. So that was right on it. He's upgraded too.

When I look in the BIOS, which is listed as 1. Under Boot, it says USB. I changed that to HDD1 / SSD1. Even so, it still doesn't boot up.

Right now I've changed that to the 2nd hard drive. Even so, it still doesn't boot up.

Then there's an option (igdwas with Realtek), but I'm sure that I don't even need to try it out.

Can't I somehow revert to an earlier version by pressing any key?

I had tried several times by pressing F8 on Start. According to 1 website I should be able to open something with F8 (without having to start Windows) where I could select the various previous settings. But nothing happens when I press F8.

However, I wonder if F8 isn't just the wrong key as I had the same thing with the BIOS / UEFI. In most places it said that the BIOS could be called up via F2 or via the Win key and F2 and after a long search I found the information: ALT + F2. And with the latter it worked.

The laptop belongs to my son. He's completely exhausted about it.

I have almost no idea about PCs etc. Please bear with me.

My son and I would be very grateful to anyone who can help us.

If the option to reset the laptop to an earlier version is possible, this would of course be the best solution and I would be really happy if someone could tell us how to do it.

Many thanks in advance. I very much hope that someone can help us.

(See above: I was able to fix this using a website.

See below: The PC has been displaying this since then. You don't hear any noises that you hear when he's working. Because at the beginning I still hoped that he just needed something. Since I read on 1 page that it started after 1 hour of the loading screen was displayed. But it has been showing that since 12:15.

At this point, Secureboot first recognized that one of the files did not originally belong to Windows. (Image 1)

By deactivating Secureboot, this check is now skipped, but obviously this changed file ensures that Windows no longer starts. (Picture 2)

Why is that so?

joa that can be due to anything, a failed update, a crypto trojan that was interrupted in its work or or or.

do you have a second working PC and an empty USB stick (at least 4 GB) available?

When I look in the BIOS, which is listed as 1. Under Boot, it says USB. I changed that to HDD1 / SSD1. Even so, it still doesn't boot up.

This is the order in which the BIOS searches for bootable data carriers. As long as all SSDs / hard drives appear in the list, that's OK. Even if USB comes first.

I had already tried several times by pressing F8 on Start

F8 calls up the Windows start options, if Windows doesn't do anything else, F8 doesn't work either.

Oh yes, big praise to you that you provide really detailed information that could be helpful in problem solving, but the very few who create.

And I give you a very HUGE PRAISE for recognizing that at all. Because I'm often accused of writing too extensively in my question or in the answers. I have often had to read: "Too much text, that's why I only deal with the question itself", etc. For a variety of reasons, I'm more detailed if I have to. (I also just really enjoy writing and communicating. 😁)

1. So that you have enough / hopefully all relevant information to help.

2. It has often happened to me that people only read the question and therefore then recommend the most obvious solutions that I have already tried myself. If you had read the context of the question, you could have saved yourself this answer and thus your time. I write it in there so that people know and don't waste their time or switch to other solutions, and still I get complained about often or all the solutions that I have already tried are mentioned.

How often I had to read in computer or mobile phone forums for advice on what to do ALWAYS 1st in every problem with these two objects: "Try a restart." Which is why I often already write in my headlines: "… I've got through all of the common solutions…"! I always think it's funny, because that's ALWAYS there with the restart.

You are actually the first person who has now appreciated that and has even classified it correctly. Thank you.

I also found your answer extremely helpful. Above all, that you mentioned the "why", i.e. Possible reasons. Because that's always what interests me. And that you made me aware of my mistakes in thinking in a respectful and very nice way (order of the bootable data carriers).

I have USB sticks, but I think it's just older, so pretty small. Then I just have to get a new one. Can I still get WIN10 online for free? Saw it on Ebay for 2.50 euro. In a pinch, I'll buy it there.

That that had to happen now. The blast is yes, I don't even know if this laptop has a DVD drive?! 😂 When I bought it, it said it would have 1, if that's the case, I wonder where, because nothing can be seen on the outside and I haven't seen any listed in the system until now. I rather think he doesn't have one. Otherwise I could have put it directly on a CD and wouldn't have had to buy an extra stick. So the whole thing would go faster.

I wish I had a clue about the subject like you. I really admire it because I imagine it to be exciting and helpful.

In any case, a big Thank you. I always wait a few days for the most helpful answer. But I think yours has great chances.

I always think it's funny, because that's ALWAYS there with the restart.

that also solves 99% of the problems. ¯ \ _ (ツ) _ / ¯

Buy one with 32 or 64GB memory now, they just don't cost anything anymore.

The installation files are still available free of charge. The free upgrade also works perfectly (shouldn't that be turned off in 2016 or something?)

The media creation tool offers you the option to download Windows 10 as a data carrier image (.ISO) or to create a bootable USB data carrier directly. I recommend the ISO file, why do so at "Further Procedure"

Saw it on Ebay for 2.50 euro. In a pinch, I'll buy it there.

That's just the license key, you don't need one because Windows 10 was already installed on the laptop.

I could put it directly on a CD and didn't have to buy an extra stick. So the whole thing would go faster

Windows 10 is very heavily compressed so that it fits on a disc, installation via USB data carrier is always the fastest option.

proceed further:

In addition to the Windows 10 data carrier image (64 bit), download a Linux distribution, for example Linux Mint and the YUMI program.

https://linuxmint.com/...wnload.php

https://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/

With the program YUMI you can create bootable USB sticks from ISO files. OK, the Media Creation tool can do that too, but YUMI can pack several operating systems onto the stick at the same time.

So run Yumi:

select the USB stick
select the operating system (Windows installer)
And the associated ISO file
check the box next to "Format USB stick with FAT32"
open fire

YUMI puzzles for a while and then baked Windows 10 onto the USB stick.

Finally, the question "Would you Like to add more Distros?" and yes we want something like that.

With the second distribution (Linux Mint) you proceed in the same way (Linux mint, ISO file), only you leave out the tick when formatting.

Now you can plug the stick into the patient and boot, now of course USB must be included in the order again, ideally in the first place to skip attempts to boot the hard drive directly.

Be the first to start Linux mint. Linux mint, like many other Linux systems, can run directly from USB and offers you a working desktop without having to install anything. You can now look at the hard drive and check whether there's still important data on it and possibly save it.

When everything is backed up, restart the PC and use the Windows Installer option to reinstall Windows 10.

You skip a possible question about a license key with "I don't have one" as soon as Windows 10 has sniffed the Internet, it recognizes the computer again and activates itself without you having to enter a key.

Oh yes! When installing newer Windows versions, you will no longer be asked whether you want an offline account or a Microsoft account, instead the Microsoft account will be forced on you. If you don't want a Microsoft account, you can work around this by disconnecting the PC from the Internet during the setup

I wish I had a clue about the subject like you. I really admire it because I imagine it to be exciting and helpful.

Unfortunately, with IT knowledge, you automatically become a call center for all of your relatives. But as in any other field, it is of course extremely helpful to be able to solve problems yourself.
