My laptop has been making a strange noise for a few days so I checked it is not the fan and there's no Hdd installed, just an m.2 ssd. And when you have the lid off, it sounds like something would short-circuit, e.g. When there's too much current on a small led and sparks fly. The laptop itself works fine, but the noise comes from the direction of the battery, but I still can't be sure whether it's the battery. That's why I ask here ^^
Looking forward to your replies
Is it also when it is switched off? Or when the laptop is switched on but the fan is not running?
When it is shut down there's no more noise only when it is on. The noise is heard while the fans are running and also when they are not running
Could it be coming from a speaker? Otherwise I can't think of any moving parts.
That's right, I didn't think so, thank you very much 😅 I'm going to try it without the speakers
No, the sound comes from the battery connection to the mainboard, not from the speakers. What is the reason for the Mb or the battery?
Straight from the cable?! Or from the battery itself?
Does it go away when you mute the speakers? Could be a problem with the driver…
I took out the battery and then operated it with the power supply unit
No, it only disappears when I take out the battery and then operate it with the power supply
How old is the laptop? And which model?
3 years and it's an Asus FX503V
Hm could be coil whine (occurs with some components / models). The effect may be increased if the voltage of the battery (compared to the power supply unit) is not completely constant or slightly lower. If that were the case, unfortunately there's nothing you can do. Perhaps you will take the laptop to someone who knows their way around and could provide more specific information. E.g. In a Repair Cafe when they are open again.
