Laptop makes noises without a power adapter?

My Acer laptop (bought in 2014) makes strange noises when no power adapter is connected. The noise is coming from some part of the motherboard. The noise sounds like a squeak / whine. This occurs especially when booting.

However, when I connect the power adapter, the noise does not come.

Why is that, is that normal?

Only when you open the laptop (power supply is connected) and put your ear very close to the circuit board can you easily hear the circuit board working. I think that's normal, right? The noise also comes almost only when booting.

Edit: The power supply is always connected anyway, because the battery is screwed after 6 years.

It will be completely normal coil whine from the VRM's.
