I only have my old Windows7 available as an image, my new laptop has no DVD drive.
How can I use my laptop (Windows 10) to install the old Windows 7 from an image bootable on an external hard drive?
I also need Win7 for old games that Win10 doesn't even use in compatibility mode and I know that they still ran under Win7.
You could only do that using a different operating system. Your hard drive must be connected to an operating system and then the image must be installed normally. USB boot is not known to me in Windows.
My other everyday operating system is Windows 10.
The hard disk for Windows7 is connected via USB3.
I need a solution how to install Win7 on this hard drive without a DVD drive
Boot Manager and hard disk booting worked for me
Try times via Virtual Clone Drive or Daemon Tools these are programs for an imaginary drive in the PC if that doesn't help no plan.
You don't quite understand.
Windows7 is on an external disk as an ISO image. An ISO can't be booted
So with Virtual Clone Drive or Daemon Tools could be successful, because you can install image files without an external or connected drive.
Oh sorry
Yes then maybe make a bootable USB stick with Rufus and install it on an external ssd (!)
