My notebook is now 6 years old and quite slow. The case is also a little damaged. For 2 days the computer has been making a strange noise when I start it, i.e. Press the on / off button.
As if one of the components starts to work or for a second where it drifts. The laptops 15 years ago had this sound as standard. It then indicates that the computer could soon be completely defective.
So that could be due to the hard drive (I assume based on the age that the laptop does not yet have an SSD). Due to the broken case, I assume that the laptop was dropped, or at least kicked off. The arm of the read head may have been damaged, which causes the noise. One could justify the slow read / write speed with it.
Back then, old PCs had this boot sound from their hard drives.
A backup copy and a hard drive change could solve the problem. (Depends on the condition and type of components, whether the laptop is worth saving.
