Does anyone know how to make an external hard drive bootable? I need quick help because I wanted to give my son my laptop to play and he has his own hard drive.
Can you set in the BIOS from which hard drive is booted
Unfortunately, it doesn't always work with hard drives to use them for booting. I made the experience that a PC really differentiates between hard drive, no matter how it is formatted, and a bootstick.
You simply download the program from Microsoft and build a boot stick, or rather a boot hard drive.
So USB stick would be really better if you had one to choose from? Should be at least 8 GB.
then just drag Windows on it and that's it in the end.
Later put the stick in the computer, boot up the PC, go directly to the BIOS with a key combination and then change the start sequence on the USB stick and that's it
I recommend an Ubuntu installation.
And the son his own used device.
With many PCs / laptops you can press the F12 key when starting. Then there's a boot overview from which medium should be booted.
With my BIOS I can also set whether I want to boot from USB sick, USB hdd, cd / DVD or hdd
