Got a broken laptop. I want to copy data from the hard drive and then delete it. The laptop doesn't work anymore and I would have to get to the hard drive first. This is built in and think I need a specific cable, right?
Anything else would be nice if you could give me tips!
If it is still a decent laptop, you can remove the HDD / SSD and, as an example, pack it in an external housing, which can then be used as an external hard drive via USB.
With S-ATA it is even possible to hang the HDD / SSD directly on the motherboard of the PC.
If everything is soldered to your laptop, then the data is already lost one way or another.
How old is the laptop? With newer devices it is actually always a 2.5 inch S-ATA hard drive. You could use this adapter cable if you have removed the hard drive: https://www.amazon.de/...07SQZX6QN/ If it is a very, very old notebook, it could also be Micro IDE. Then you would need this one: https://www.amazon.de/...000L9CF44/
Except the data is so important that it is worth going to a data recovery service provider. They get their data from any storage medium against enough gravel.
Why the effort? In most cases, even a layperson can easily remove the hard drive. The hard drive can then either be destroyed or installed in a new computer as a second hard drive.
