In German (8th grade, secondary school) we have just the topic "arguments". I just want to start a survey here on the topic of whether smartphones should be allowed / allowed in the classroom or not. Vote below and write your opinion.

Here is my opinion on this topic:

I believe that smartphones should not be allowed in the classroom because most students would take advantage of this to pursue other occupations on the device, but they are not class related. For example, to chat with friends via Whatsapp or other messengers or to check social media platforms.

Nevertheless, in my opinion, schools should become more modern. For example, by notebooks, which can only be used for writing texts and other uses for which no Internet connection is required. Thus, students can't access the Internet, not on inappropriate teaching platforms.

I often get a hand pain when writing with a pen after not even ten sentences, but never by keyboard. So when I write with the keyboard, I have much more motivation to write a long text than with a pen.

Many students relax listening to music, which is why you should hear music via the USB stick or SD card on the notebook, if the teacher allows it. Of course, only by headphones.

Many schools, most of them high schools, offer such a kind of modern learning, but I find that other schools also have the right to this system.

Therefore, smartphones should not be allowed in the classroom, but alternatives should be sought.

What is your opinion about this?

I agree with you!

I'm in the classroom for smartphones, but only at high schools, because you can be sure students will not use it for other purposes, just looking up words, researching, or learning. In boring substitution lessons you could then listen to music. I would also like to add that our high school is too incapable of everything, they have no notebooks, no Wi-Fi for everyone, no tablets. The only thing our school owns are a few PC rooms with many broken PCs. Then they should at least allow us to use the phone. For that, we also need our data volume. After all, we will not get it replaced.

Actually, I would say that you should allow it completely. Pupils are responsible for their own performance. As long as they do not disturb the lesson, you should allow the students to be on the phone. If they can't do it, that's their problem.

On the other hand, unfortunately, this often leads to disruptions. And at that age, most students are not mature enough to set cell phone handling in the classroom. Without these two points, I would find cell phones absolutely ok in class.
